Hi, I’m Alexis

A former educator and homeschooling mom living out a dream of raising animals, growing food, and sharing products my own family uses every day. Over the years, Jared and I have learned so much about the importance of what we bring into our home—from the food we eat to the products we put on our skin and use for cleaning.


Oak to Jade was born from a desire to share what we've learned (and are still learning) and offer simple, effective products made with ingredients you can recognize and trust. My hope is to help other families feel confident in the products they use and the food they eat and to make choosing cleaner, simpler options a little easier.

Meet your new favorite crunch…Crispy Quinoa Salad Topper! That $10 bag of salad topper at the store just isn’t worth it! This recipe uses simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. If you’re running short on time, just nix the quinoa and this comes together super fast! Ingredients: 1/4 cups uncooked quinoa 1.5 cups raw chopped nuts (I use pecans and almonds) 1/2 cups pepitas 2 tablespoons flax seed 2 tablespoons chia seed 1/2 cups dried cranberries 2 tablespoons honey 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon Directions: Cook quinoa according to package directions, then set aside or in the fridge to cool.  In a small pot, heat the honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon together, stirring until well combined. Spread cooled quinoa out on parchment paper and bake at 350°F until toasted and crispy (approx 25 min). Check every 5 min and break clumps apart.  Add the honey mixture to the nuts along with flax seed and chia seeds. Mix well to coat, then bake on parchment paper at 350°F until fragrant and toasted (approx 10 min). *I like to start baking the quinoa on half a pan and then after 15 min add the nuts to the other half of th pan to cook for the remaining 10 min. Let the nut mixture and the cooked quinoa cool completely. Break apart into smaller pieces once cool. In a large bowl, mix the nuts, quinoa, dried cranberries, and pepitas together. Store in a jar in your pantry.

Add a fermentation weight and lid. I cracked and whisked 2 dozen eggs, dehydrated them, blended them into a powder, then dehydrated the powder one more time to make sure every bit of moisture was gone. The result? Shelf-stable, farm-fresh eggs ready for winter! When the hens slow down on laying, I'll simply mix 1 part egg powder to 2 parts water and scramble them up like fresh eggs.

Pickle lovers can be picky. Luckily, these refrigerator pickles got a big thumbs up from my family! We grow our own pickling cucumbers, but store-bought cucumbers work great too. Don't overthink it…just use what you have! Slice up your cucumbers, pack them into a jar, mix up the brine, pour it over, and stick it in the fridge. Simple, quick, and so good! The best part? When the jar starts getting low, I've just kept adding more cucumbers to the same brine. As the national tree of the U.S. it is a symbol of strength and enduring growth. Jade represents the years we spent living in China, where it's treasured as a symbol of beauty, virtue, and good fortune. We're forever grateful for that season abroad and how it changed the way we see family, community, and the world. Jade holds even deeper meaning for us because our two children joined our family from Taiwan, weaving Asian heritage permanently into our story. When we returned to the U.S., we dreamed of building a life that honored both parts of that story -- a community where Asian culture is celebrated, paired with the rural life we'd always envisioned for our family. Here in Kansas City, that dream has taken root: we grow flowers and food, raise animals, and seek to glorify Jesus through this work.
